Come for the View, Stay for the Community

Mar 6, 2025

As a San Francisco native, I've heard it all—the gripes about tech bros, the sky-high prices, and the constant whirlwind of change. But once you look past the headlines, you'll see it's the unique energy here that keeps drawing people back.

I was sitting at Shack15 one afternoon, staring out at the Bay from the Ferry Building, when it struck me: it's not just the stunning views, but the vibrant community that truly defines this city.

More Than Just a Pretty Skyline

Beyond the tech hub headlines, SF offers something I find more valuable: unexpected intersections of completely different worlds that might happen at a day party, coffee shop, or standing in line for an amazing pop-up meal. Unlike the staged networking events that fill most calendars, these authentic collisions actually change how people think.

And look, if you know me, I'm all about the "serendipitous connection". Some might say it's a Bay thing (or is it a "Bea" thing 😉). Even if you don't know me, I'm sure you've experienced a very random moment in San Francisco that keeps you thinking.

Embracing Mindset Shifts and Flexibility

For me, it's all about embracing mindset shifts and staying flexible—much like the ever-changing vibe of San Francisco, where every neighborhood has its own energy and every foggy morning brings something different.

I've found myself moving with the city's rhythm, adapting instead of resisting. It's in those unplanned moments—a conversation with a stranger at Dolores Park or a random encounter at a friend's rooftop gathering—that my best ideas have emerged. And while I'm all for the AI workflows and tech tools that help us work smarter, I've realized nothing replaces sitting across from someone at a tiny table at Sightglass, watching their expression as they work through a new concept.

I'll say something that might ruffle some feathers: not all collaboration in San Francisco is created equal. I've sat through plenty of "collaborative" sessions in sleek office spaces that were actually just echo chambers. The real magic happens in spaces where there's healthy tension and genuine disagreement—that's where actual innovation occurs, not in rooms where everyone's nodding along to the same old ideas.

This is why I'm drawn to startups and why I'm excited for where we are now—a place where change is the norm and every new day promises fresh opportunities to connect and grow.

My Evolution: From Boutique Beginnings to a New Way Forward

When I first started consulting back in 2014, I took a very boutique approach—let's face it, I was in it for the win-win: the client got results, and I got paid. Nothing more complicated than that.

Last year, however, I formalized a new entity that wasn't just another marketing tactic. Drawing from my experiences with Product School, Fiverr, and years of full-time work and consulting, I developed a way to navigate a world in constant motion—a mindset shift, if you will.

This evolution isn't about rigid formulas; it's about blending practical know-how with a dynamic approach to change.

Setting the Stage for the Journey Ahead

This blog is my ongoing conversation about navigating this tech landscape after nearly 15 years in the industry. In future posts, I'll share more about the places, people, and moments that have shaped my perspective on startups, new tech trends, security and innovation.

I'm particularly interested in exploring how our digital and physical worlds are colliding in new ways. Wait—did I just use the phrase "digital and physical worlds colliding"? That sounds like marketing copy. Let me be more straightforward: I want to talk about how we can use all these amazing tech tools, how to go-to-market and establish content and product market fit, and how the humans who work in this field can leverage this for more impact.

After spending too many months behind screens, I've rediscovered the energy that comes from gathering in real spaces with real people. Technology enhances these connections, but it's the in-person moments—seeing someone's face light up when an idea resonates—that keep me excited about what's possible here.

Where to Catch the Vibe

If you're looking to tap into that unique SF energy, here are a few spots that never fail to inspire:

  • Shack15: Where startups, creatives, and investors naturally come together—and the view of the Bay is simply unbeatable.

  • WeWork: Despite all the chatter, certain locations offer a genuine mix of diverse minds and industries. Check out Embarcadero, 600 California, and Salesforce Tower for some epic views!)

  • Industrious: A great coworking option for when I need to sit back, people-watch, and let a great conversation unfold over an excellent cup of coffee. Check out the new Hej! location in Mid Market.

Final Thoughts

As I wrap up this post and get ready to join friends at Shack15, I'm struck by the realization that San Francisco isn't merely a backdrop—it's a living, breathing example of how community and adaptability drive growth.

Whether it's a spontaneous coffee chat, an energizing in-person event, or a quiet moment by the water, every encounter here inspires me to keep evolving. And that, to me, is the true magic of this city.

I'm excited to write more, where each post will uncover new insights, celebrate community, and explore the dynamic interplay between technology and human connection. Thanks for joining me on this adventure—first post of many.

Thanks for reading.
